The Story Behind Boho for Life

My name is Gildine and I’m the maker behind Boho for Life. I design and handcraft everything myself, from bark cloth bags to hand-painted jewelry.

I’ve always been drawn to color, natural materials and creating things that feel real and personal. You can see that in everything I make, honest, authentic and made with care.

My Creative Journey

I started out making jewelry and gradually taught myself many different techniques such as macramé, glass bead making and silk ribbon dyeing. One day I discovered the art of painting mandalas on stones, and it opened up a whole new world for me. Painting a mandala stone feels calming and almost meditative. I’ve always loved playing with color and finding harmony in combinations.

From there I began making bags using materials I could reuse or repurpose. There’s something deeply satisfying about giving forgotten fabrics or textures a new life. That’s how I discovered bark cloth from Uganda, a rare plant-based material carefully harvested without harming the Mutuba tree. I instantly fell in love with its story, its texture and its connection to nature.

As far as I know, I’m the only artisan in the world creating bohemian style bags from this extraordinary material, something I’m genuinely proud of. I believe in reusing materials whenever possible, it’s a simple way to care for the earth and reduce our footprint. With Boho for Life I try to do my part by creating pieces that are mindful, sustainable and made to last, crafted with love and attention to detail.
